Tower II is equipped with a sophisticated life safety system composed of a partial sprinkler system for fire protection, an automatic fire alarm system with smoke detection, manual alarm stations, visual notification, and automatic tenant audible notification.
- The Simplex alarm panel provides alarm notification for each floor in the building, as well as, firemen's phone communication. Major components of the fire panel include:
- "Affected Floor, Floor-above, Floor-below" Signaling - The fire panel activates so that not all floors will be audibly informed of an activated alarm. For instance, should an alarm be activated on the 5th floor, then floors (4,5, & 6) would go into an audible alarm situation. This is to allow the affected floors to be notified and evacuated first.
- Visual devices - are located in the building common areas. These devices will illuminate on all floors regardless of the location of the floor that is in an alarm condition.
- Audible system - The audible system should annunciate throughout the "Affected Floor, Floor-above, Floor-below"; both inside the tenant spaces and common areas.
- Pull Stations - manual pull stations are located within the common area elevator lobbies on each floor. Once activated, the fire panel will alert the "Affected Floor, Floor-above, Floor-below"
- Smoke detection devices are located throughout the building common area. Once activated, the fire panel will alert the "Affected Floor, Floor-above, Floor-below".
- Each floor is provided with two fire exit stairwells that are fully pressurized during an alarm condition to prevent heat and smoke infiltration.
- Once the fire alarm panel is activated, the air handling equipment on all floors will shut down regardless of the floor the alarm may have been initiated. In addition, the building is equipped with a smoke evacuation system that can be used by fire department personnel to exhaust the smoke to the outside of the building.
- All elevators will immediately go to the ground level in the event the alarm panel is activated. Fire department personnel can then manually operate individual elevators to evacuate personnel or transport fire department personnel to selected floors.
- The diesel emergency generator automatically activates in the event of a loss of power so that essential electrical systems such as stairwell lighting, stair pressurization fans, a single elevator, and fire pumps are continuously served with electricity.
Each component of the life safety system is tested individually, as well as, together as a complete system in an annual power shut down test. On-site personnel of Tower II are trained and familiar with the Emergency Procedures.
